POSITION OVERVIEW

DBA / Database Developer - Full-Time Role

Location: Washington, DC (Fully Remote)

ABOUT THIS ROLE

The DBA/Database Developer designs, implements, and maintains Oracle and Postgres RDS databases for federal clients in a fast-paced Agile environment, ensuring security, performance, and efficiency. This remote role involves database optimization, troubleshooting, data migration, and collaboration with distributed development teams to deliver high-performance web applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and implement database systems that meet client needs, including data modeling and normalization.
• Maintain security and integrity of databases, handling authentication, encryption, and access control.
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize queries through tuning and indexing.
• Create and maintain documentation for databases, data policies, procedures, and standards.
• Perform backup/recovery, data migration, ETL processes, and integration for cloud-based databases like AWS RDS.

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Minimum 2-5 years experience in Database Administration.
• Experience with both Oracle and Postgres RDS.
• Experience with cloud-based databases (preferably AWS RDS).
• Experience with database automation and scripting.
• Experience in SQL and query optimization (Query tuning, Indexing etc).
• Experience in Database security (authentication/authorization, encryption, access control etc).
• Experience in Backup/Recovery, Performance monitoring.
• Experience in Data migration and integration (ETL, Data Warehousing).

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• 4 year Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Eng or related (highly preferred).
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to take the initiative to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• Skilled in verbal, written and oral communication.
• Strong team player with a great attitude.
• Flexibility and willingness to go beyond the call of duty; highly self-motivated.
